In a tower defence game you have to stop the enemy by building towers and shooting at them as travel towards your base. The more enemies you shoot, the higher your rewards. You continue to build more towers, and arm them to try to defeat your enemy. It’s a simple enough game that becomes challenging as your enemies troops get stronger.
This is a real-time strategy game, you build towers as your enemies move towards you. The action can be sped up using the icon in the top left corner, but as more and more enemies make their way towards you, the action can become pretty fast paced, so it is a nice feature to be able to choose when to speed up the game, and when to slow it down.
There are many different levels to go through, and many feature to explore. You make your way across a map as you complete levels, and as your gameplay improves, you can return and re-play levels to get a higher score.
What really makes Gemcraft stand out is that your towers are armed with magical gems and these gems have different properties. For example red gems cause damage, yellow cause tripple damage, purple reduce armor, orange steals your enemies mana (life force) and green gems poison your enemy. Gems are combined to create more powerful gems. As you mix gems their properties mix too, so there is another level of strategy in this game, working out which gem combinations work best against your many different enemies.
